The last few weeks of school are a very exciting time, but they can be chaotic. If the countdown to summer has started, then you probably already know how important it is to have engaging end of the year activities for ELA in order to cut down on classroom management issues. I’ve written about this before, but I have a few fun and very low prep activities I want you to know about!

Give your students a prompt and have them write super short stories of 100 words or less. Have students share their stories with a partner and get feedback in order to refine their stories even more.
Have your students create a script based on a short story or excerpt from a novel they’ve read this year. Give your students time to prepare the script and even the option to perform it for the entire class!
This is one of my favorite things to do on those random days at the end of the school year. Find a short story or text that has been made into a short film or television episode. Read the text version first and then watch the video version and have students compare. I’ve had success with The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.
